Configuring DataOne on Mac OS X (Tiger)

Configuring DataOne on OS X is very simple.

  1. Open up System Preferences. Click on Network.
  2. Click Location and choose New Location. Give it a name, say, “DataOne”.
  1. Double-click “Built-in Ethernet”.

Settings for the TCP/IP Tab are as follows:

Configure IPv4: Manually
IP Address: 192.168.1.xxx (any random number below 255 should do)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Router: 192.168.1.1

DNS Servers:

61.1.96.69
61.1.96.71

For the other tabs, leave everything disabled (as it is by default) and click “Apply Now”. Your DataOne connection should start working now.

Next time you switch locations and want to use DataOne again, just click the Apple menu to the top-left, surf to Location and choose “DataOne”.

thanks alot….these BSNL guys have not even heard of MAC. I had hell lot of problems to configure data one broadband on my Powerbook. After using mac help and powerbook manual , i finally managed to configure.

Can somebody tell BSNL ppl about the mac, world most advanced operating system.

Hi, thanks a lot for providing for the post. It has helped me confiure my Imac like a breeze.

BTW would you know how to connect to the BSNL Dataone portal for checking the usage details, etc.

Hi Guys gr8 to see something on mac regarding bsnl
The bsnl ppl have never heard of anything out of the window!!
I was wondering would the same settings apply to leopard??
and which modem should i choose i got a macbookpro

Just additional info for others, if you have to connect to dataone with login/password and do not use wifi, do the following:

(steps based on lion)

1. Do what is said in this blog
2. With location set to DataOne, you have to click the (+) sign to add an interface.
3. Select PPPoE from the interface dropdown
4. Select Ethernet from the Ethernet dropdown
5. Give service name as BSNL (or anything really)
6. Click create
7. It will ask to for account name and passowrd
8. Enter your dataone account credentials and press apply
9 And voila!

Hi Mikhail,
Thanks for the post! I tried to follow your as well as Sunil Kamat’s instructions for accessing the BSNL wireless internet connection at home but didn’t get any success. I am using Lion OS on my Macbook pro.
Could you please suggest any ideas? Also, if you have any tips for accessing the same network using iPhone, it will be great. I am visiting my family in India and since my parents have BSNL internet connection, I am facing this weird problem. It seems that BSNL people have no idea about other(and better) operating systems other than windows :-)
