Faster BitTorrent Downloads

Posted by Mikhail Esteves under: Miscellaneous; Tips .

You can get faster download speeds in BitTorrent by configuring your router to allow ports 6881-6889 for torrents. To do this:

  1. Surf to your Gateway IP (usually 192.168.1.1) using your favorite web browser. Authenticate. (If you never changed your password, try admin and admin for username/password).
  2. Find the port range forwarding function or a similar function.
  3. Enable TCP/UDP ports 6881 to 6889 for your machine’s IP Address. If you don’t know your machine’s IP, open up the DOS command prompt and type ipconfig. You’ll see your IP address there.

That’s about it. Your download speeds should be significantly faster after this change.
