OS X and Samba Connectivity Issue

OS X Tiger has problems connecting to remote Samba shares. Finder usually just hangs, or shows you a weird connection problem. Using smbclient -L 192.168.10.1 to list shares works just fine but connecting to any one of those shares does not. The following method works fine for me:

  1. Open Finder
  2. Press [Apple-Key] + K
  1. Type smb://192.168.10.1/sharename

You’ll be prompted for your password… Type in your smb password and the share should mount normally. If you save the share path and password in Finder, you can easily re-use it later.

Just in case that does not work, try connecting with your username. Like: smb://username192.168.10.1/sharename@

Thanks for solving a big problem with the ViewSonic WMG 120 that I have worked a week trying to get access with my G4 PowerBook using OS10.4

I used smb:192.168.1.1/samba ide share and got access to the 120 HD
Thanks! Thanks! Thanks!
